Point Guard (PG)

  1. Often called the “floor general.”
  2. Primary ball handler and playmaker who directs the team’s offense.
  3. Responsible for passing, setting up plays, and controlling the game tempo.
  4. Usually quick with good dribbling and decision-making skills.

Shooting Guard (SG)

  1. Typically the team’s best shooter.
  2. Skilled at scoring from mid-range and beyond the three-point line.
  3. Also plays strong defense and often helps the point guard with ball handling.
  4. Versatile and athletic, able to drive to the basket or shoot from distance.

Small Forward (SF)

  1. Known as the most versatile position.
  2. Combines scoring, defense, and rebounding duties.
  3. Can shoot from outside, attack the basket, and guard multiple positions.
  4. Often a strong all-around athlete with good size and agility.

Power Forward (PF)

  1. Plays near the basket but can also step out for mid-range shots.
  2. Focuses on rebounding, defending bigger players, and scoring inside.
  3. Strong and physical, often sets screens and battles for position in the paint.

Center (C)

  1. Usually the tallest player on the team.
  2. Positioned near the basket for blocking shots, rebounding, and scoring close-range.
  3. Protects the rim on defense and often serves as the team’s anchor in the paint.
  4. Key for controlling the interior both offensively and defensively.
